Just got this info yesterday from KBS and they will have a New Year's 2010 celebration event at Dataran Merdeka tomorrow.

Date: 1/1/2010

Registration: 11am

Start: 2:30pm (after Friday prayers)

Location: Dataran Merdeka

Format: Unknown yet but it's a flatland. Could be Game of SKATE, High Ollie or Gap Ollie challenge, or others

NEW YEAR'S 2010 DH SESSION

Date: Fri, 1 Jan 2010

Venue: Taman Metropolitan Kepong

Time: 9:30 - 12:00

Where to meet: TMK carpark, front entrance

Description: TMK is suitable for beginners to get their first taste of downhill in a safe controlled environment. The track goes around a lake. There are 2 short DH sections at 200 m each. Max speeds are 44 km/h. Non-technical. The rest of the track is pretty flat which is good for cruising. Nice surroundings as it is a public park, with the Kuala Lumpur city skyline visible not far away.

Venue: Janda Baik

Time: 15:00 - 18:00

Where to meet: Genting Sempah rest area (along Karak highway, on the way to Genting Highlands)

Description: Janda Baik is a nice 3.6 km run for the aspiring beginners to take their DH obsessions onto a real road. Traffic is minimal, being out in the middle of nowhere (jungle). Dogs and monkeys are roaming about sometimes. Max speeds are 75 km/h (street luge), 70 km/h (classic luge), 55-65 km/h (downhill skateboard). The top half is VERY rough with lots of turns, whereas the bottom half is much smoother with less turns, but speed picks up fast at the very end.

2 more session on Saturday and Sunday. Will be updating by tomorrow night

The competition in Taiping was held 2 days ago (on Thursday) as side event in conjunction of International Eco Adventure 2009. Results as follow:

As for today comp, it was bit of surprised and last minute. I only knew about this comp when i was in Taiping 2 days ago and wasn't able to post it on the web due to unclear information given to me. Heard that every state JBS have selected 5 skaters to represent each state without any selection but only by random pick. Yet the mini ramp comp was cancelled due to circumstances and was replaced with Game of S.K.A.T.E which we did it on a rough tar road (well what other choices do we have?)

SKATEISTAN 1ST INDOOR SKATEPARK @ KABUL

Remember the 1st Afghans skate school; SKATEISTAN? Here's an updated news from them. After two years of hard working looking for funds and sponsorship, the Skateistan team finally get their first indoor skatepark for the skateboarder & kids in Kabul, Afghanistan.

On the 29th october 2009, the opening was commenced with short greetings from international donors and Afghan dignitaries, followed by a skateboarding demonstration by Afghan girls and boys together with internationally renowned professional skateboarders (Kenny Reed and others) on the newly built ramps and obstacles. We hope to make these sessions at TMK a monthly thing. Also, we have a surprise for you in this second installment. There will be 5 longboarders coming from the Philippines to join our session this Sunday. They are part of the Gravity Games Asia crew and they are responsible for the longboarding scene that has exploded within the past 1 and a half years in the Philippines. There have already been 6-7 races organized in the Philippines since January 2008, so they're doing really well!

To help spread the stoke even further and make the sport grow bigger here in Malaysia, they will showcase their freestyle / dancing, sliding, and downhill skills during the session this Sunday. Bring your protective gear together if you guys have them.

SIN ELGELJIA R.I.P.

I am sad to write that Sin Elgeljia has passed away in Australia this weekend (according from skatepunk.com). Apparently his sister found him in bed and could not wake him up. Sin was a great skateboarder, a generous and funny man, and always a smiling face. He was the first team manager and a designer at Airwalk in the 1980's, he rode for Madrid for years, and was known for being "Vic" in a hilarious series of Airwalk ads featured in Poweredge Magazine. He later was a lead designer at Duffs. He is already missed. Rest in Peace.

Our sympathies go out to his family.

Another skate shop that we have been waiting for is finally open. Owned by our friends; Mr. Sukeats and Wei Yeng from WHEELOVE. The shop is very big, nice with a perfect location surrounded by tons of restaurants, and stalls at the area and we can even skate in the alley which is in front of the shop only. Reminds me the good old days of Skate Street Skateshop (RIP) back in the 90's. Congratulations!
